n.b. Category subsetting is not working at the moment, menu catagory list shortened for testing.
The Glass Bibliography, informational and nothing for sale, is now freely available to the general public. Born in 1998 and since on static web pages it has always attracted many visitors. Now, March 2008, it has been reborn, with every original entry being re-researched and updated and an additional 400 titles added during that review. Additions continue...
The process of expanding it to become the most comprehensive
bibliography on glass has begun. Unlike other bibliographies, this will
contain information on the contents, major errata and the search
facility will thus allow you to search for specific references instead
of using the categories. n.b. Use the search in the left column as the
Author/Title boxes only look at those fields. Searching on, for
example, 'Carnival' finds more 50% books than filtering just the
titles!
Many contents lists and content data have been added. Titles are in
original languages but all notes are in English. Feel free to send
translations in other languages as well as information on titles that do not list or describe their contents.
Glass-Study members need to log-out for searches to be limited to the bibliography.
The bibliography needs input from publishers through authors and booksellers to readers in order to fulfil its aims,
so please share your opinions or lists of contents. Books, CD's & DVD's,
pamphlets, catalogues will all be included. So please help us expand
this database.
Where known the main entry is the earliest edition and includes data
and dates of later editions. Any ISBN number given may relate to later
editions. Can be searched for without dashes but bear in mibd each edition has its own number and only one is included.
Users can copy a citation or download a string of particular
search results in Bibtex format. This can be incorporated easily into
specialised bibliographies on other sites. Creating a duplicate of the
entire database will not be acceptable and regarded as a breach of
copyright - because it will make it difficult to ensure accuracy without a
central repository with active management. There are several free bibliographic databases that
accept input of Bibtex format for use on websites.
A typical entry in Bibtex format looks like this:
@book { ,
pages = {229 pages 647 b/w},
publisher = {Dover, New York, US},
title = {Colonial & Early American Lighting},
year = {1962},
abstract = {Lighting appliances in the New England Colonies,
original 1923 title listed as Colonial Lighting
- ISBN Number: 048620975X.
Editions/printings: Rev. 3rd 1962, 2003.},
url = {http://www.glass-study.com/cms/},
author = {Hayward , Arthur H. and Marsh , James R.}
}
Types: @book, @cdrom, @catalogue etc.
For new entries please send in this format. Opinions, errata and other data for existing entries, as plain text please. Thank you.
URL should be used to point to online versions of a text, a page of errata or a publishers site.
This is not intended to be an academically researched bibliography and will include readers opinions of some titles. Other Abstracts are derived from multiple sources to ensure validity, including authors and glass researchers as well as booksellers, libraries and collectors. Also with reference to Duncan's bibliography.
This first version has some minor bugs that will be resolved in due course. Apostrophes are a problem and the All Titles option fails to page correctly. Publishers are not included in the formatted citation but are in the Bibtex downloads.
